With the cost of heating oil well over $4/ gal I decided to purchase a Harman pellet stove, which will be delivered in about 2 weeks and want to built a standard 48" x 48" hearth raised about 3-6". My plan is to frame it out with 2x4's and then put plywood on top of the 2x4's but what do i do about laying the tile.Obviouslyy, it won't stick it the plywood. I plan on buying some ceramic tiles at Home Depot or somewhere. Please tell me what you think I should do or if u have an entire new plan, let me know! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

I scanned instructions and it said where the 7" vent pipe goes through wall, a 9"x10" box like square should surround the pipe in framing. Is this necessary? This would require opening entire wall to add framing and was thinking just cut a circle in sheetrock, continue out through siding where the vent terminal attaches. Thought this could be done easy by myself before hiring a pro to install the gas line. Buy stove, hearth pad, position the stove, cut the hole. Is there a easy solution, and what tool is the cleanest for this operation?

I have a wood stove that is in my basement. I am making a hearth pad for it to bring it up to code. My chimney flue pipe that goes through a wall about 3 inches into concrete which goes into my chimney outside. My question is the sheetrock around the pipe is 2" away. If this is double wall pipe will that be sufficient? So there is nothing around the pipe at all up to 2 inches. I can see clearly it goes into concrete. If you are a contractor, home inspector, building inspector, DIY home repair person, etc. please state that when answering my question. Thank you in advance. Well considering it was already like this when I moved in and my home inspecter said to just put it up on a hearth. Then you would assume it was ok. But just your opinion is 2" alittle to close for comfort?

I'm actually looking for a plan or something similiar. I am familiar with all the tools, equipment, etc.

We bought the foam pads and corners for babyproofing a fireplace hearth. It came with some adhesive, but the 8-month-old pulled that off in 2 days. I went and bought a roll of super-duty double-sided tape at a hardware store and that lasted a week. I used Loctite PowerGrab, but that didn't adhere because the brick is painted and Powergrab has to have at least 1 porous surface. I try to keep him away from it, but it still needs the pads in case his 2 yr old sister pushes him into it. I'm looking at using a product called Sumo Glue. http://www.sumoglue.com Anyone have experience with this product? Any other suggestions? I am about ready to just tear the hearth down and put tile on the floor. Thanks for your help.

I have to install a hearth pad for the EPA wood fireplace I'm installing. Can I simply lay tile or marble as the hearth or are there other requirements to make it noncombustible?
